See Siena Cathedral's marble floor while it is uncovered
Piazza del Duomo
A floor of 56 inlaid marble panels by more than 40 artists, fully revealed only a few months a year.
What it is
The floor of Siena Cathedral is a picture book in marble: 56 inlaid panels made by more than 40 artists between the 14th and 19th centuries, some from cartoons by Pinturicchio and Beccafumi. In the same church, the Piccolomini Library glows with Pinturicchio's frescoes of the life of Pope Pius II, painted from 1503 to 1508.
How to do it
One ticket covers all the cathedral sites for three days: €14, or €16 while the floor is uncovered. Buy online or at Piazza Duomo 7.
Good to know
Most of the floor stays covered to protect it and is only fully revealed for a few months a year; in 2026 that is 27 June to 31 July and 18 August to 15 November. Plan the visit for those weeks if you can. On Sundays outside the uncovering, the cathedral only opens from 13:30.
