Start with the park's webshop

The lakes are on Croatia's list, and the national park sells its own tickets at ticketing.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr, the webshop it links from np-plitvicka-jezera.hr. A ticket bought there has to be validated at the official entrance you picked when you bought it, within the time window you bought.

This is a planning guide, not a report of a recent visit. The rules and prices below come from the park's own pages, checked on 25 October 2026.

Why it sells out

The park recommends buying online in advance, and says tickets are also sold at the entrances unless they are sold out, which is the summer problem in one line. Each online ticket fixes an entrance and a time window, so the busy windows go first. You cannot go in before the time on your ticket, though the park allows you to be up to an hour late.

Price shapes demand as well. In 2026 an adult day ticket costs €40 from June to September, but €25 after 16:00 from June to August and after 15:00 in September. From November to March it is €10, and in April, May and October €23. The ticket includes the electric boat and the panorama train on your route, plus insurance.

Official options first

  1. Try the other entrance and later windows. Because a ticket is sold for one entrance and one time window, must30's advice is to check Entrance 1 and Entrance 2 separately, and the later windows on your day, before giving up on it.
  2. Buy at the entrance. Unless they are sold out, tickets are sold at the desks at Entrance 1, Entrance 2 and the auxiliary Flora entrance, for cash or card. The park warns this can take longer in peak season. On 25 October 2026 the hours page listed ticket sales until 15:00, and those hours change with the season.
  3. Go in the afternoon. The cheaper summer price after 16:00 (15:00 in September) is the park's own late-day ticket. The park sets entry time windows, so check what the shop offers for the afternoon.
  4. Stay at the park. Guests of Hotel Jezero and the Korana and Borje campsites buy a ticket for the first day only. Each following day is free once the ticket is extended at reception, before you set off. The park's special offers page lists stays at Hotel Jezero and Borje.
  5. Take two days. A two-day ticket (€60 for adults in summer) is valid on two consecutive days and carries the visitor's name.

Tours and resold tickets with entry included

Day trips and guided visits with the park ticket included are sold by operators on platforms such as GetYourGuide, and so are entry tickets. Read the listing for two things: that the park ticket is included, not just the bus, and which entrance and time window it is for. The park's validation rule applies to every ticket, wherever it was bought. The park's own guides work only with organised groups of 15 or more.

If you book through these links, must30 earns a commission at no extra cost to you.

Timing that helps

In winter the Lower Lakes are usually open while the Upper Lakes are closed; the park says the Upper Lakes usually reopen in early April, depending on the weather. Trails can also close for a while when the weather turns, so the park suggests calling +385 53 751 015 or +385 53 751 014 to check conditions before you travel. October costs €23 and both lake systems were open on the park's conditions page on 25 October 2026.

What not to do

  • Do not turn up early for your window. The park refuses entry before the time on the ticket.
  • Do not buy for the wrong entrance. An online ticket is validated only at the entrance chosen when it was bought, and a visitor in the park with an inactive ticket is treated as having no valid ticket.
  • Do not count on the desks in July and August. They sell only what is left, and the park itself recommends buying online.
  • Do not leave the ticket at home. Every visitor has to carry it until leaving the park and show it when asked.
