Walk through a medieval silver mine under Hrádek
Hrádek, Czech Museum of Silver, Barborská 28
Put on a helmet, a lamp and a hooded miner's coat and walk about 250 metres through the mine that made Kutná Hora rich.
Without a car, a private day trip from Prague handles the train changes at Kolín and Kutná Hora hl.n. and can add the guided mine route if you book that option.
What it is
Kutná Hora grew on silver, and the Czech Museum of Silver tells the story in Hrádek, a late Gothic palace on Barborská street. Its second route, the Silver Path, follows the whole process from digging the ore to striking coins, past a horse-driven winding machine, and ends underground, where you walk about 250 metres of an original medieval mine.
How to do it
The Silver Path is guided only and takes about 90 minutes: adults pay 200 CZK, with 40 CZK more per person for commentary in a foreign language, and a joint ticket with the self-guided town history route costs 270 CZK. Groups are capped at 25 and leave at most every 30 minutes, and the last one starts 90 minutes before closing. Book online or by email. Hrádek is closed on Mondays and in February.
Good to know
Children under 6 may not enter the mine, and the museum advises against it for anyone claustrophobic. You can skip the underground part and see only the surface exhibits.
