See the palace museums of Genoa's Strada Nuova
Via Garibaldi (Strada Nuova), Genoa
One ticket for three palaces on Genoa's street of palaces, with Van Dyck portraits, a Caravaggio and Paganini's violin.
What it is
Via Garibaldi, laid out between 1558 and 1583 as the Strada Nuova, is the street of palaces built by Genoa's leading families. From 1576 the Senate listed such houses in the Rolli, registers of homes that had to lodge visiting dignitaries when drawn by lot, and in 2006 the street and 42 of the palaces became a UNESCO site. Three of them form the Musei di Strada Nuova, more than 75 rooms on one ticket: Palazzo Rosso, with its Van Dyck portraits and Bernardo Strozzi's Cook; Palazzo Bianco, Liguria's main gallery, with Caravaggio's Ecce Homo; and Palazzo Doria-Tursi, the city hall, which keeps Paganini's Guarneri violin known as Il Cannone.
How to do it
The €14 ticket also covers the Sant'Agostino museum; ages 18 to 25 pay €2.
